Skills 4 Volunteering Project
Accreditation and Training opportunities for volunteers.  The following opportunities are offered to residents in the Blackpool area:

AQA Qualifications: AQA' s are accredited qualifications which recognise on the job skills and roles that volunteers do. i.e. you can achieve an AQA in anything from organising a fund raising event to developing computer skills or helping out at your local dance group to conservation work. There are over 40,000 AQA' s available!!

ASDAN Qualifications: There are two ASDAN courses and qualifications available at the Volunteer Centre.

The Community Volunteers Qualification which is a 10 week course which recognises good practice in volunteering and the general skills that volunteers need to perform their role effectively. Full 1 to 1 support and materials are provided. Level 2 is equivalent of 2 GCSE's Grade B.


The Employability Award recognises the development of valuable employability skills, this will help you to develop a self-awareness of your skills and competencies, and help to prepare you for job applications and interviews

Blackpool Heritage Champions
The project aims to promote informal learning, encourage learning and recognising the value of informal training local people give to the community. This involves volunteers providing guided walks and talks; for example, around the Winter Gardens, Blackpool Tower, the Town Hall and support Heritage Open Days in Blackpool. All volunteers undergo training and have access to the Local and Family Heritage research Centre in Central Library.

HEALTH TRAINERS
Improving health and wellbeing by empowering people to make healthy choices.
The Health Trainer service is free to residents of Blackpool and can provide:
  • Information on healthier eating and exercise, including a range of supporting programmes such as 'cook & eat' sessions
  • Guidance and support in improving mental health and wellbeing
  • Information on local fitness/leisure centres, free local activities and social events
  • Referral to other agencies such as smoking cessation
