Step Up
What:-The project is a pre-volunteering and personal development project for young people. The project will prepare young people to take up voluntary opportunities, support young people into volunteer opportunities and make volunteering more accessible for young people.
Young people will:-
- Have their own personal Action Plan
- Set achievable goals that are realistic in relationship to their personal circumstances
- Develop their personal qualities and skills through accredited learning and activities.
- Have the opportunity to develop these skills whilst also learning new ones
- Participate in a Step up to Volunteering Programme
- Participate in group activities such as a Social Group, Fundraising Group, Drama Group, One Day Events and weekends away Confidence Building
- Receive appropriate support when required
- Have a voice on the steering group
- Form their own action group
Examples of activities:-
Social – Picnic in the Park, football, rounder’s, line dancing and picnic lunch.
Celebration event, presentations of certificates and buffet.
It’s a Knockout.
Fundraising – Race for life, Blackpool Fun Run, Promenade Walk.
Volunteer one off opportunities – International Women’s Day, Working with children from Chernobyl.
Why:-The project will improve the health of young people by increasing their self-esteem and confidence through their participation in the project. It will steer young people away from negative activities into positive activities that will improve not only their general health but also their quality of life.

Skills for Volunteering Project
Accreditation and Training opportunities for volunteers
The Volunteer Centre can now offer accreditation, training and support to volunteers in the Blackpool Area.
The following opportunities are offered:
AQA qualifications
AQA' s are accredited qualifications which recognise on the job skills and roles that volunteers do. i.e. you can achieve an AQA in anything from organising a fund raising event to developing computer skills or helping out at your local dance group to conservation work. There are over 40,000 AQA' s available!!
ASDAN qualifications
There are two ASDAN courses and qualifications available at the Volunteer Centre.
The Certificate in Community Volunteering is a 10 week course which recognises good practice in volunteering and the general skills that volunteers need to perform their role effectively. The course provides workshops and support in completing a portfolio of evidence. Full 1 to 1 support and materials are provided. Level 2 is equivalent of 2 GCSE's Grade B.
The Community Involvement and Volunteering Award provides a certificate of achievement for volunteer who are involved in up to 60 hours of Community Involvement and Volunteering activity. Volunteers will receive 1 to 1 support in producing information about their volunteering experiences through a variety of forms for instance making a video or a DVD about their project or making a collage out of photographs

Wyre Forward
This is a project funded by Wyre Local Strategic Partnership to enhance the lives of Residents of Wyre.
If you live in Wyre and would like to volunteer, telephone the Volunteer Centre to make an appointment at an outreach venue in Wyre.
Wyre Forward is also recruiting Volunteer Mentors and Volunteer Project Workers. As a volunteer mentor you will be working with young people and adults from Wyre who need practical and emotional support to enable them to access volunteering opportunities. (A mentor is a volunteer who works for a specific period of time with a mentee to achieve the mentee's own goals).

Working Neighbourhood Fund
A project funded by the Working Neighbourhood Fund to promote volunteering in the Claremont, Clifton, Bloomfield, Talbot and Brunswick, Victoria, Ingthorpe and Park wards of Blackpool.
The Project is currently recruiting Volunteer Advisors. As a Volunteer Advisor, you will be helping people find the right kind of volunteering for them from the wide range of opportunities that are available locally.

Health Trainers
Improving health and wellbeing by empowering people to make healthy choices
Health Trainers are a new workforce who have been recruited locally and they will have a stake in improving the health of their community. Initially working with people who suffer from health inequalities and have previously been hard to reach via other services.
Clients can spend between 4 to 6 sessions with a Health Trainer, the times and length of the programme can be flexible to suit individual needs. Meeting places are also flexible.
Health Trainers can provide
Guidance and support in improving mental health and wellbeing
One to one meetings
Information on local fitness/leisure centres, free local activities and social events
Information on healthier eating and exercise
Referral to other agencies such as smoking cessation
Support and accompany you to new places and groups
The Health Trainer Service is FREE
